"Conservative does not mean maintaining the status quo. It means adhering to certain principles, ,

like the superiority of free markets to the political allocation of resources

Many "Liberals" such as myself, believe that government allocation of resources, such as allocation of Intellectual Property, and allocation of excessive resources to the military industrial complex are out of hand.

or the preferability of keeping government decisions local or state, if kicking things to a federal level in unnecessary.

We also believe that the federal government should only involve themselves in those areas specified by the Constitution, overriding the state and local governments only when rights are being violated.

For example, don't stop the states from legalizing pot for the treatment of illness.

Additionally, in The Constitution of the United States it states that all powers not specifically granted to the Federal Government are state rights. I have not seen anywhere in The Constitution where the Federal Government has been granted the rights to control the air waves, not even in so much as a proposed amendment to allow them to do so. But where are the conservatives arguing that this is a state right. I for one, did write to my congressmen arguing this point when they were considering new laws governing the communications industry, particularly when it came to the right of the federal government to prevent me from subscribing to the networks on satellite.

I remember when I was in school and we got to the lessons on government. The definitions of democrat and republican went something like this:

Democrat: Progressive, in favor of change and improvement.
Republican: Old school, concerned with maintaining the status quo.

As a child I wondered why there would even be republicans... It was obvious which of the parties was the good one. It is no shock, I suppose, that these sort of BS definitions still exist when they get baked into children's minds so early on. Of course, those with courage grew to understand the true difference between the philosophies of the parties. Or at least what they have become. And I am by no means conservative for conservatism's sake. Nor do I reject every notion of the liberal ideal.

I do believe in freedom for freedom's sake.
I believe in hard work for work's sake.
And I will be responsible to no one but myself.

If my life and work can be a benefit to others it is a boon to me.

Status quo... feh.

Who is John Galt?
