<BTW, do you think Palomino can keep up in clock-speed with P4?>

I think it can stay close. Can't say for sure. I have been out of the know for a while now.

RE:"BTW, do you think Palomino can keep up in clock-speed with P4?"

No, but the difference % wise between them will shrink compared to T-bird vs P4. Somewhere around 10% maybe 12%.
Problem is that Intel will get to .13u before AMD so the Mhz gap will expand for a time, likely in Q4, Q1 02.

Some clever marketing by AMD could help.

andreas, reEspecially after Sanders reiterated that they still intend to undercut Intel in price at a given clock-speed

I think he said they would "match" at any MHz and undercut at any "performance level."

Just found this in JC's transcript which confirms that:

DREW PECK: ...What is your likely response to Intel more aggressive pricing?

A: We think they'll be more aggressive, we don't think there'll be a price war. Our practice will be to price competitively clock for clock with what Intel does. Competitive price and superior performance. Market conditions favour us. Frankly, we think the P4 is a dud, they have no choice but to cut the price, because it doesn't perform as well in many applications than lower clocked PIIIs. Truth is that a crummy car with a rebate is still a crummy car.

Q: You will still match their pricing even for the crummy car?

A: Yup. We think the compelling value proposition will help us gain unit share.
