What Im trying to find out specifically is how the market responds to decreasing earnings and warnings; I have found very little actual data on the behavior of past bear markets
most of the examples use the dow as the index of choice; at first I thought that with falling valuations and an accommadative fed, technical signs of fear and erosion of optimism, that we had entered a readjustment of assets and more average pricing would be reflected in the naz even throwing out this years earnings, as the market discounts the future> Now I see the SOX>X flying wildly up and I am no longer even remotely sure of what is happening(bear rally); hence the wish to see the action of past bears; I wonder if the bubble is really gone; or if there are always bubble valuations in part of the stock world; now the sox-- I no longer have an explanation of what is happening even assuming herd behavior unless--- a new bubble is forming-- say there is more news this week that is interpreted as good and we are off; lifting the sox to beyond what all the shorts can live with and having alot of techinical analysts go positive;; etc and off to the sky, as lots of money piles on

<events in the 1900-1940 time period>

If you can get your hands on a chart of gold prices for 1939-1940 you would be amazed by how similar the chart patterns are so far if you look at Aug39 - Aug 40 gold and then compare it to March 00 - March 01 gold.
Really its worth your time.

Then if you go check out a chart for the DOW JONES UTILITIES for the same 1940 period, you see a significant pull back for a couple of years before the bull returns. I think the next up will be very huge but first we have to reset some priorities and spread some wealth.

The 39-40 gold chart comparison is uncanny though.
