Elmer,

Re: Nice to hear you are happy with today's P4 running non optimized code. Maybe you should try Intel's Fortran compiler?

I will. The Linux compiler I want is in beta test and will not release until "late April, early May" according to Intel. I have signed up to receive it as soon as it becomes available. Not clear if it will support OpenMP (which we like in 2 and 4-way SMPs). We may build a 16 or 32 Beowolf cluster with P4s, especially if prices come down --as rumour has it. The largest cluster we last built has 18 P3 duals (around 800 MHz) and it is a very nice, fast machine. Between you and I, Rambus memory is expensive, so we went along with 512 Mbytes on each node. We would like more memory; a gig or two per node ... DDR would be great but I wonder what is going to happen in terms of performance for memory intensive applications (like mine).
