Zeev....

I agree with you that Palestinians should have their own state. And yes, they can not accomplish a successful one without assistance. However there are too many that under no circumstances will EVER agree for the existence of Israel. No matter what you promise the Palestinians, no matter how much you give them no matter how much you help them as long as the Hesbalah exists so will the terrorist acts continue and peace will never be achieved.

There will always be the ones that want to talk and think peace can be achieved. But then we also have those that want peace so desperately, but know the reality of the situation. Terrorists always have and will be around us and we will have to continue to leave with them and continue to defend our country. Unfortunately I just don't see it any other way as much as I would like to see it your way.

Take care...

Ossnat

Very wise words, Zeev.

Poverty breeds extremism, hate, and desperation.

Give a person unlimited time to think about how horrible their situation is, and they will come up with unlimited ways to lash out against the object of their hate.

I think it may take a generation before we can see true progress towards a solution that is palatable to both sides.

The Palestinians really have to see that their enemies are not necessarily the Israelis recently but the members of their own corrupt government as well as their so called Arab brothers who use them, but no longer readily support them. Self determination for the Palestinians means the Arabs say - you're on your own.

It is incredibly complex. I could see Arafat possibly needing to pass some money to Hezbollah to keep them in line, but instead he squanders it on his Fatah cronies
at the expense of his people. You really can't blame Saudi Arabia and others for refusing to give the promised money to the Palestinian Authority because it never gets to be used for the people.

I think the time has come for the Palestinians to find a new, dynamic leader who can unite the people under a common cause - peace and economic prosperity. Arafat served Israel's purpose for so long and so well that he's actually become a liability to them.

Unfortunately, I fear that dynamic leader may be radical and unpredictible. Let's hope a moderate unity can take hold after Arafat's gone. We don't need any more Khomeini's or Taliban.
