We're on the same page when it comes to democrats wanting to keep the taxed money to hand out as "THEY" see fit.
If they have a carrot to dangle in front of people, then they have control. Take away the carrot, and they are left holding a stick, and no one wants the stick.

The Unions have used the same ploy over the union workers for years and have been able to get away with it...
They collect dues, use it to promote their candidates, democrats, who in turn pass legislation that will give more authority to the union bosses. Up until now, most of the workers could do nothing about it, now at least, they have the right to say whether or not they want dues to go to only candidates the union "pay" for.
