I haven't really noticed a degradation in service lately myself. I noticed one a while back when the job market got tight. New hires without much experience. I handle as many transactions as I can online. Yesterday I rented a trailer at U-Haul, and had to have a trailer hitch installed. The lady ahead of me was also driving a Land Rover - which needs a different adapter on the wiring harness than the one it comes with. To have the dealer do it costs $150, she told me. No problem - the guy at the U-Haul center was from El Salvador and was really good at fixing things. Cost me $15. People from poor countries know how to fix things. Americans have to throw things away because nobody can fix things.
