Petz the P4's aren't selling, and they are trying to dump them.

Thats my take.

John:

"What's going on? Well, one thing is that Intel probably sold 10 million P3's for <$100 in the last week of Q1, and these have now appeared on retail
shelves."

No doubt...AMD with its 20% market share have established a loyal following owing to the price/performance gap, quality, market leadership and continuing stream of exceptional new product intros provided by the Athlon...It is precisely this loyal base of AMD users who will proselytize for AMD reinforcing any AMD marketing plans and when upgrading will most certainly repurchase AMD product...Contrarily, INTC is losing its followers owing to widening price/performance gap of AMD products, and seemingly never ending stream of problems with almost every new product intro. Any INTC user currently looking for an upgrade is no longer looking at just INTC in the top end, as not only now is AMD in the top end, but AMD offers a reliable (i.e P4 is unproven) product with a significant price/performance gap. INTC is sliding and the slide is more difficult than anyone at INTC ever imagined, hence the panic P4 pricing!!! What remains to be seen is if the panic pricing ($352 is hardly a deal compared to competitor equivalent performing system) can rekindle any P4 spark for any sustained period...I remain unconvinced that $352 will do it!!!

"Almost a complete absense of AMD systems in the newspaper flyers"

Have you visited any local shops? Same picture.
I don't know how AMD made up the quarterly report,
but their statement about increase in market share
does not correlate well with the shelves of US
retail shops. Softly speaking.
