Taiwan Semiconductor delays capex plans:

TSMC will slow investment in plants that make 8-inch silicon wafers, while maintaining spending for new 12-inch wafer plants. The new plants would reduce production costs by almost a third, the company said.

Twelve-inch wafers, which more than double the surface area of 8-inch wafers more commonly made today, cut costs by yielding more chips per wafer.

Delay

Still, TSMC said on April 19 it may delay installing equipment in its third 12-inch wafer plant to the second quarter of next year from the first quarter depending on how quickly demand recovers.
