Amy,

When I worked at Sandia Labs, I had the opportunity to see how Government and industry could work together cooperatively to great benefit. Intel and Sandia have a very close relationship, and together they developed fab technology which reduced water consumption by 90%. This is of course very important at desert sites like Rio Rancho and Chandler.

At the other end of the spectrum, we worked with Intel to help design the most powerful supercomputer in the world, and hardware based data security.

It would be nice to see more of our tax dollars going towards positive applications, and less to feed the military industrial complex.

Amy J,

Why not do something creative and innovative, like establishing tax incentives for startups and VCs to generate economic growth, rather than paving the same road over again?

The problem with tax incentives is that if you give incentive to one industry, it's equal to creating a disincentive to another. What the government should do is be neutral, and create a friendly environment to all businesses.

For example, one company that I have a particularly keen interest in faced a competition from a dot.com start up, that was fueled by the VC money, was competing for employees with our company, paid unrealistic wages, set very unrealistic expectations in the market place, and subsequently it crashed and burned.

What is it about this new start-up and their VCs that needs subsidy to be paid by our company?

Joe
