Just a hint, next time you want to get off jury duty, carry a traditional Bible -- black cover, gold print, all the goodies -- clutched to your chest. Whenever you get asked a question which allows for it (not your name, of course, but other questions), open the book, flip a few pages, close it, clutch it back to your chest, and answer the question. It they ask what you were looking for in the book, just say "I wanted to refresh my memory on what God said about that."

Guarantee you're off the jury. If not for cause, then for sure by one side or the other.

As to the book you did choose, I agree, in retrospect, that the counter-culture of the 60s was as intolerant as fundamentalist religions are today, though their proposed remedies or penalties were much milder -- not burning in hell, or being put to death, or other equally objectionable consequencs. Utter disgust and ostracization were the norms. But intolerance -- you betcha.

BTW, did you get off the jury?
