<<I think a split lip would be very painful >>

One year when bowfishing for carp ( we shot heavy arrows with lines attached that were fixed to reels on the bows ), one guy was using a heavy, stretchy line. On his last shot the line got tangled and the arrow stopped short and came flying back. It hit him in the upper lip just below his nose and penetrated about 2".

Now besides looking real silly with the arrow sticking out of his face he seemed to be in some pain. At the hospital they had to open the roof of his mouth to take the nock off the arrow so it could be removed.

<<I think a split lip would be very painful >>

Another lip story.

Many moons ago I was having coffee with some friends when a friend of their's came in and sat down with us. His right cheek was really a mess and he had no lips. Talked turned to his "moment of clarity" and his love of Jesus. Seems he had been a drug user and had gotten way down. He put a loaded 12 ga. shotgun in his mouth and pulled the trigger but flinched so he removed his cheek instead of his brains. Like a dummy I asked about why no lips. The flames from the muzzle blast had exited his mouth and burned his lips off. That ran a shudder up my spine.
