I don't think you can even pay to join SI anymore. I searched but couldnt find that option. I think having to pay to speak is good. It keeps spammers and idiots to a minimum. Now you get a free one year premium membership if you open an account at NDB, no funding of the account is required. So SI is now free.

When I was suspended a couple of years ago, some friends and I used to meet on a Yahoo Club. It's ok but you can't do PMs, it's hard to get back and forth, just not really set up as well as SI. Also, you have to let people in, so it would remain a closed circle. New people wouldn't wander in, and we wouldn't have all the great new people we have now.

We've spent quite a bit of time on Raging Bull and MarketSpirit, but SI was better. MarketSpirit is very close to SI in useability - Bob's apparent willingness to tolerate our more adult behavior is something good to know.

I don't know how SI makes money. If you are not a member, then when you read SI you see ads. They used to charge for membership, but I don't know if they do anymore. The oldtimers were grandfathered in, as SI was free in the beginning.
