Dale,

So far, there are 4 vendors on PriceWatch advertising 1.7 GHz P4: pricewatch.com

If you ever looked for a component that is hard to find, you would find it advertised by these very same companies, what happen to the BS artists, advertising stuff they don't have in stock, and usually have no idea if and when they will receive it. I am talking about the top 2 companies listing 1.7 GHz P4: PC Progress and Spartan Technologies, which may even be the same company with 2 front ends to their site. BTW, these companies have it listed with 2 sticks of 54 MB RDRAM.

The other 2 companies on Pricewatch don't even have it listed on their site. Based on this non-availability of the processor on the date of launch, I am beginning to have my doubts about the ability of P4 to scale easily on .18u. Even though Intel only sold 800,000 P4s in Q1, they must have made 2 to 3 times as many, with the rest going to inventory. And now they don't have enough of 1.7 GHz to supply the distribution channel. This would indicate that the sweet spot has not moved much from 1.4 GHz.

I would really like to know what's going on with Intel. I think the whole company is falling apart. Their demand is down almost 25%, yet they can't ship enough competitive parts. I guess from today, the new motto is "Gotta get to .13u".
