Some hold up is expected with the roll our of 3G systems; some claim that no revenue is visible. Others claimed that standards are difficult to formulate.

In fact, the large carriers and their captive suppliers will build out and set the defactal standard. Qualcomm(patent holder) has tried out with Lucent system(cdma only). ATT and Docomo, convergence systems will also be built by Lucent, who gained the experience with CDMA tests(2.4 mb/s) recently.

Where does that lead DWDM(NT) and ANTC's fastest cable modem to converge with wireless? New technology where same wavelength laser diodes(many, many) can use code division or time division dedicated channels in the same fiber. Cost of cable subscription will come down to be affordable to 50% population of each town(currently 30%). The rest will use digital broadcasting subscription with wireless carriers.

The new revenue from the digital TV broadcasting is going to drive wireless 3G build out and subsequent roll out. It will be another franchise money maker.
