This was my original post which started this discussion. Obviously I was talking about design. Startups don't do manufacturing.

The UK has the highest energy prices in the world, and turns out just as many microprocessors as the US. Some of the most successful startups in history are in the UK- ARM, Element 14, etc.

Nearly 20 years ago, Unisys computers were the platform of choice for many banks after software vendors developed specialized applications for Unisys hardware. Today, Unisys is more of a service company than a hardware vendor, but it hasn't forsaken its banking customers.

Unisys this week will unveil a line of servers called Clear Path Plus, which are engineered to work closely with the company's mainframe computers. The CS782, for example, will scale up to 32 processors, half of which will be Unisys' own mainframe chips and half of which will be 700-MHz to 900-MHz Itanium processors from Intel. It will be the most powerful Wintel server available and is slated to ship in August.
