Marty,
If you do the copy it is totally non-destructive on the current drive. In your case, after you copy the stuff onto the D-drive and reconfigured it as a C-drive (as per previous instructions) and get it to boot successfully; just stick the other drive in an anti-static wrap and put it on a shelf for six months. If your new C-drive craps out just stick the old C-drive back in. If you need a second drive, sub-20 Gig drives are dirt cheap. I just got 8 brand new 7200 RPM seagate 9.1 gig scsi barracudas for $39 apiece plus shipping. I don't even know what I'm going to do with them yet :)
