There is a movie, co- written by Tennessee Williams and Gore Vidal, called "Suddenly, Last Summer", with Katherine Hepburn, Montgomery Clift, and Liz Taylor. In it, there is a point where one of the characters talks about going to the Galapagos and watching birds take turtle eggs and smash them wantonly against the rocks, just to destroy. He talks about seeing "the dark face of God" in that moment. Of course, that assumes that God is the only actor, and that He has not had to accommodate the effects of others who seek to thwart His will.......

Yes, you have cut to the heart of the matter, an unanswerable question. I guess, ultimately, we each seek the level of answer which we can most comfortably incorporate. Does that make any sense?
