Here's why Dell is down today:

Kimberly Alexy, of Prudential, issued a cautious research note today. Here are the highlights:

...both earnings and revenue are tracking the quarter, although the quarter appears to be tight.

...sales in the US are below plan, but sales in Europe are above plan...Europe is a bright spot for Dell.

...margin pressures should be offset by lower component costs.

...Dell is perplexed by Intel's recent bullish comments. Dell hasn't seen anything that would support Intel's thesis.

Based on the Prudential report, the stock was down 3.50, or about 12%.

Hope this helps to clarify why Dell was down today. I guess, given CPQ's earnings report, that the sellers are very jittery, and any hint of negative news is enough to drive down a stock's price.

In any event, I sure hope Dell makes, or beats, its numbers.
