Neo,

The fire destroyed all of the forest land adjacent to the town on the west and north sides. It looks pretty bad right now, but in a year or two the burned area will be full of aspen saplings, and should be quite beautiful.

75 years of fire suppression set up the fire, and it was just a matter of time till a catastrophe happened. It is sad that hundreds of people lost their houses.
