I think you are being facetious about inventory writeoffs,
etc, but I would not be in the slightest surprised if CSCO
would write down (at this point) the largest amount possible in a single horrifying move, and then by overproviding for the amount, surreptitiously:

-- return overprovisions into future revenue
-- start to look like "miracle workers" again

I know there are accounting rules about these matters, but
I also know there are many and varied ways around them.

Best wishes,
Jim

C'mon bambs, all great companies fudge their numbers here and there. What's a few billion dollars amongst friends?

I have a better idea. It will be much easier for the CSCO longs on this thread to write down their CSCO price on the Portfolio Tracker to zero, and then gradually write it back up towards $8/share from below. Guaranteed to feel good, and better than watching their CSCO zigzag towards $8/share from the top side in an excruciatingly impolite way.

This method also allows more self control, as Woody Allen once said about practicing making love.

Hmm ... it seems that Cisco is shutting down its PixStream operations in Waterloo, Ont. 320 people in total. A friend just told me that most employees except a small group of caretakers were laid off today. The caretakers are just there to wind things down. Cisco announced the buyout of Pixstream last summer (a small deal by Cisco standards ... only a couple of hundred million) but the deal did not close until Dec. Now they are throwing in the towel after less than 6 months.

Can anyone say ... goodwill write downs batman? So much for the acquisition success story...
