Got any good Snow Adventures?

I was on the way to a gig in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. I was late. Driving the van, by myself, everyone else was already there. I was late because I was in the middle of a blinding snowstorm. Maximum speed was about 20 mph (if you had chains, which I did), visibility about 100 feet. I was freezing. I was not having a Good Time.

It was after the sun had set, about 8 at night. The gig started at 9, and I had about another hour of driving. One of the rubber tie-downs on one of the chains broke, and part of the chain was tapping the inside of the wheelwell on every revolution. After about a half an hour, I couldn't take it any more, so I stopped the van, got out, and began to tie the loose part of the chain down.

I was working along, and I heard this noise. I couldn't see anything because of the snow.

Then a train went by about 20 feet behind me. I had stopped right next to a railroad crossing in the mountains and didn't even know it.

It took me about 15 minutes to calm down.

I made it and we managed to get the gear unpacked and we started on time.
