Artesyn Announces New Line of High-Efficiency DC/DC Converters for Distributed Power Architectures
biz.yahoo.com
BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 19, 2001--Artesyn Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ATSN) today announced the launch of an entirely new series of DC/DC converters to meet the growing demand for high-current, low voltage sources for powering latest-generation semiconductor technology.

Housed in an open frame package with an industry-standard half-brick footprint, the new EXB250 series converters are initially available with 3.3V, 2.5V or 1.8V outputs and up to 165W of power. All three models offer exceptionally high current output capabilities for their size, with the 2.5V and 1.8V models delivering up to 60A.

``These products set new standards for efficiency,'' commented Artesyn's President and CEO, Joseph M. O'Donnell. ``High efficiency means less heat and more usable power for our customers. These converters are specifically designed for use in demanding networking, telecom and wireless applications, and are particularly suited for systems employing a 48V distributed power architecture. They also expand our product offering into the mid and high-power segment of the market, enabling us to provide our customers with a broad range of solutions to their power needs.''

The EXB250 series is the first high-power product line to be announced from last year's acquisition of Azcore Technologies. They are constructed entirely from SMT components and designed for fully-automated assembly. Based on a standard half-brick footprint, they are pin-for-pin compatible with a number of competitive products - which makes them ideal for manufacturers seeking a second source option - but are capable of delivering more usable power under low airflow or natural convection conditions than any comparable DC/DC converter on the market today.

Artesyn's EXB250 converters are currently available in volume for customer sampling.
