based along lines of your analysis i was secure in the belief that there would be no surprise rate cut and got pasted badly with a put position i had on LLTC:( so to this question <<The major question that follows from this analysis is "What is really bothering Greenspan?">> and yes what is the rub???
my quick analyis,Greenspan singular focus is not on overall economic numbers but with NASD and therefore the tech sector.
Why? It is felt that one,NASD is one major factor(if not the single most important factor) in forming Consumer Confidence, good or bad.
A conjecture-- The input AG is getting and not telling us,the tech sector is not in a mere slowdown but is on the edge of snowballing recession that could undermine all else, not the least of which is the NASD index.

AG,in my opinion, has developed an economy that depends on the tech sector and on it's market place, and if it has fallen and can't get up,we face big trouble spinning off from such an event. Thus he does desperate moves to refuel the "golden goose",and in my opinion,a dangerous game he plays.Max
