Foreign PC Makers Unveil Pentium 4 Models

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Dell Computer Corp., Gateway Japan Inc., and Hewlett-Packard Japan Ltd. each unveiled on Monday new personal computers containing Intel Corp.'s newest microprocessor, Pentium 4, with speeds of up to 1.7GHz.

The new PC models, made for both individual and office use, boast high-speed processing of moving image and audio data.

Dell Computer's DIMENSION 8100, which hit the market the same day, is a desktop PC made for individual use. The series' most inexpensive model is priced at 242,800 yen and has 128MB of main memory and a 10GB hard-disk drive (HDD).

Gateway Japan's PERFORMANCE 1700 XL is also made for individual use. The series' standard model is 349,800 yen and has a 128MB main memory and 60GB HDD.

Hewlett-Packard Japan's hp vectra vl800, is a desktop computer made for office use. The series' highest level model is expected to hit the market on May 15.
