Yes, exactly. It's awful and can be very frustrating when benchmarking.

I really think its time for Jerry Sanders to get off its duff and sue Intel for attempting to monopolize the benchmarking industry. Having control of Ziff Davis, Bapco, CNet, Mad Onion and SPEC is clearly monopolistic and should be dealt with.

I don't think that Intel has control over SPEC or CNet but I agree with the other companies. But suing would probably be the wrong solution. A better approach for AMD would be IMO to fight Intel with its own weapons, i.e. providing the benchmarking companies with more assistance in special Athlon optimization. Creating their own benchmarks (see NBench) wouldn't be bad either. But the best solution would be SSE support in Palomino. AMD couldn't benefit from all those SSE (benchmark) optimizations immediately.
