First gathering I attended of the new girlfriend's family, out in the country somewhere. They had one of those three wheeled ATVs. Well of course a man can drive anything well, even without training. So what if it's a plowed field. Ever notice that those things don't quite turn on a dime? I did, as I was approaching the barbed wire fence. No sweat, I'll just hit the brakes. Course the throttle and the brake are on the same handle, and I squeezed everything at the same time. Picture Steve McQueen in The Great Escape. Turned out the girlfriend (now wife, amazingly enough) wasn't very good with blood, either. Family still talks about it, almost 20 years later.

I grew up in an apartment building in brooklyn, ny. We lived on the fifth floor. I can remember as a kid, maybe 8 years old I used to lean out the window to see how far I could get and not fall. It is a miracle that I am still around to tell this story. Whenever I think about it I am horrified that I actually did this.
