If I owned Lucent, Intel, Nortel, Cisco or any of those, I would have problems sleeping at night. Most of this week, it's merely been unpleasant surprises after I wake up :-)

That's a great line... (and true, too).

Sleeping problems....

seem to evolve into 'reality check' problems.

You cite 4 electronic technology stocks as pure insomniac cases. The implication is that BT has survived more intact since there's been 'no revisions in the drug area'.

Let's do the silly thing of actually checking performance since the market peaked.

Change of representative stocks for the BT and electronic sectors since 3/1/00:
------------------------

SEPR -75%
INCY -88%
MLNM -49%
CRXA -84%

Avg. for BT = -74%

------------------------

LU -85%
INTC -50%
NT -74%
CSCO -74%

Avg. for electronic = -71%

------------------------

No matter how much spin is placed upon our somnolescent BT sector, the performance shortfalls are AT LEAST as prevalent among the biotechs as elsewhere.

Since earnings do not exist for the vast majority of BT companies, earnings revisions might not be expected to the same degree as for those electronic firms with substantial revenue. Is this not obvious?

But the BT sector can certainly collapse with the best of the best, revenue stream notwithstanding.

While BT has lots of promise, let's not bury our collective heads too deeply in the sand.
