>>Packers' Brown slimmed down, ready for action

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The Gravedigger is back.

Green Bay Packers nose tackle Gilbert Brown, known more for his battles with his weight than his play, is back with the team after being out of football last season. He took part in the Packers minicamp Saturday, and, as advertised, he's smaller and quicker.

"Everything's fine," said Brown, listed these days at 339 pounds. "I'm just a little rusty now. It's kind of hard. I've been out for year."

Packers head coach Mike Sherman said he wants Brown to get down to 330 or 325 pounds, but he was pleased with Brown's performance so far in camp.

"He's very hungry to play," Sherman said. "He wants to prove he can get this thing done."

Brown was nicknamed the Gravedigger during the Packers' Super Bowl march in 1996. He dominated the inside and stuffed runs up the middle. But he suffered several injuries as his weight increased.

Sherman said he envisions Brown as a reserve player now. <<
