Wasn't there some talk on the thread a while back about two .13mu scanners (or was it steppers?) in Intel's Israeli fab, with reports of one of them breaking or some such?

Steppers, but this was way to early for .13 um stuff.

Pentium 4 yields 'not impressive' theregister.co.uk

Haaretz reports that there are only two steppers in the world capable of handling one critical part of the P4 manufacturing process. Both of them are at Qiryat-Gat and one of them doesn't work properly.

The paper claims that P4 was meant to be built using new machines which weren't delivered on time and the old steppers aren't really up to the task with yields of 70 per cent on the P4 compared with 80 per cent for Pentium III parts.

That was a pretty goofy story, the 70% yield on a 2.5x larger chip would have been phenomenal.

"Well, Intel probably has some of the scanners it will need..."

So SVG, or whoever they are, suddently ran into production problems on the 7th and 8th scanners they were supposed to ship to Intel?

I don't think those are critical to Intel's current .13µ process
