With the agreement, Sybase will continue to port Adaptive Server(TM) Enterprise (ASE) to SGI's IRIX(R) operating system. This will protect the investment of current SGI-Sybase customers and allow them to upgrade to new versions of ASE that meet the needs of traditional and online businesses. ASE allows customers to make their information e-Business-ready. New customers will be able to utilize ASE's superior performance, scalability and unique high availability solution that leverages IRIS FailSafe(TM), the next-generation high availability solution from SGI. All customers will also be able to take advantage of significant productivity enhancements that include support of Java and XML in ASE.

All SGI customers running on all MIPS(R)/IRIX platforms can benefit from this strengthened partnership, including those using the latest SGI(TM) Origin(TM) 3000 series servers based on the patented NUMAflex(TM) modular technology. This technology provides enterprise customers with unparalleled scalability, resiliency, flexibility, investment protection and performance.

"Under this agreement, SGI and Sybase have put into place a long-term mechanism for maintaining and extending the customer base that we have jointly developed as partners over the last few years," said Desh Urs, vice president of Database Alliances and Business Intelligence at SGI. "This is a worldwide partnership with Sybase dedicated to delivering solutions that exploit our shared core competencies in big data that allow our customers to utilize their data assets to make better business decisions."

"This agreement serves as a basis for leveraging key Sybase and SGI initiatives with the purpose of providing effective solutions for our joint customers," said Raj Nathan, Senior Vice President and general manager of Sybase's Enterprise Solutions Division. "We are pleased to continue to provide availability of Adaptive Server Enterprise, Sybase's enterprise database product, to all of SGI's IRIX customers."
