I am kicking myself for not taking profits today.

It does not look like you needed to take profits today, unless you were long QCOM.

IMHO, the market brushes this news aside and I would not be surprised to see QCOM close positive tomorrow although I don't expect it. The Nasdaq itself proved that it is not going down that easily.

My guess is that QCOM closes higher than the afterhours quote of 54 to 55. I have not read all the comments on the earnings and did not listen to the CC. However, the proprietary technology that they have that is the key. Don't believe the quarter to quarter earnings are a big deal on this particular stock. Investors are going to be looking at the progress on 3G and not necessarily earnings over a quarter or two.... this applies to only this type of stock--actually I don't know of another such company.

Too many will consider it a buying opportunity unless the analysts really kick it hard in the morning--something I doubt.

Poet, Did you consider dumping the JNPR calls this morning.
Although the short interest is high on the stock and its earnings are OK, it just seems that the sector is under so much pressure for JNPR to stay up there. With a rising market is should do well as shorts get into into trouble on this one..again but just may not have a good risk/reward. It may be a winner still but one can probably place better bets elsewhere. That is how I am seeing it.
However, it is a great daytrading stock.

I can see the same logic extend to Ciena also. The sector (communications equipment) is now just too competitive.

--wireless does not seem bad though--nokia, qcom, the wireless chip makers and even the carriers.
