There can be big disconnects between what an analyst says and what the retail system does. Although Kurlak mentioned in his piece that INTC was the largest holding in ML's retail system when he left in Feb 1999, he didn't mention that the last time he had a Buy rating on INTC was August 1997 and from August 98 to late Dec 98, ML brokers couldn't solicit purchases of INTC because the rating was too low.
