Chuck: The price/MHz curve is pretty flat in the 800MHz-1.33GHz range AMD sells. So, what? Why is that bad? I am baffled as to the point you are trying to make. It's all really quite simple. If you look back to the origins of our discussion, you will see that I was challenging your assertion that Durons will suddenly explode in popularity: me: There is no price differentiation between Athlon and Duron - they are completely linear with frequency (well, almost). That naturally pushes the demand towards Athlons (better branding), as well as higher frequencies. you: I am expecting that this should start changing this quarter. Duron with integrated graphics chipset should be cheaper than the cheapest Athlons with KT133A with a good margin. me: Yes, but not cheaper than Athlon + integrated graphics chipset with a good margin. Sure, there is a price difference, but it's minimal and likely outweighed by better branding and faster operating frequencies. you: I see a significant cost delta between Athlon and Duron solutions at any given speed grade so I am not sure what you define as "minimal" and I am not sure where this discussion is headed I am not saying that any of this is "bad". All I'm saying is that the flatness of the curve, along with the extremely small premium on Athlons over Durons will naturally push demand towards the former. Especially since AMD has zero branding of the Duron name, whereas the Athlon name has finally achieved some level of branding. -fyo
