Why do you think that provocation enters into it? Since China claims Taiwan, and can overwhelm it with troops, they will invade if they want to. They do not want to, because part of the value of Taiwan is its infrastructure and economy, just as with Hong Kong. They will intimidate Taiwan into annexation, if they can. However, Taiwan knows that they are not prepared to attack if they will meet determined resistance. Therefore, we are shoring up their security and helping to preserve their independence.......

Dear Scumbria: Its one thing to have hordes of people, its quite another to have transport and backup to support them in an offensive operation. I didnt see GW provoke anyone, all I saw was a truthful man. We have a treaty, everyone knows it. Frankly, even though I like the Chinese as a Race, and respect their ideals and all, I am beginning to tire of their War Lord attitudes. Remember, Japan once conquered them with a fraction of the population. We would never invade China, in fact, what really upsets me is that historically the USA is the ONLY industrial nation that DID NOT exploit China, plus we were instrumental in helping them even prior to WWII. I think they need to step back and consider who their real friends are. JDN
