I ran into problems with Attune on a friend's Dell WindowsMe machine a couple of months ago. Something went wrong (never could find out exactly what he was doing when it imploded...a first time computer user) and we ended up uninstalling it. More info on Attune.

in tracking the elusive backweb, i found a PTM.BackWeb.dll file on my win98se in C:\Program Files\Aveo\Attune

I don't find any reference to Attune or Aveo. I have however, found C:\program files\Data Life Guard\8263142 where among other files is a readme.txt file for BackWeb Version 6.0, which is identical to the one in the BackWeb program. I have no clue to what this program does, but Data Life Guard IS listed in the add/remove programs section of control panel so perhaps removing it might remove BackWeb. I prefer to find out what it is BEFORE I trash it though!

I also found in my cookies file a bob@www.backweb which shows as modified yesterday at 2:36pm.

The total total result of all this is that I am as confused as ever but now have some clues to help ferret this out. I thought we decided last night to hide this away where it wouldn't bother us or force me to further expose my ignorance! Was that all a dream? <g>
