Art, in relative terms, Samsung is more like a "large chimp" -- rather than an "800 pound Gorilla". That title belongs to Microsoft ... with GE and Intel next, and Oracle not far behind.

If God forced Samsung to report according to SEC regs, you would note that Samsung is not a profitable company as we understand the term in the U.S. Japan has had a decade+ to find a way to reduce their interest rates below 0.00% As much as I appreciate the ability of Japanese firms to convert ideas into money and then use that money to build great products, in the end it's all "air". Grind it all down and you have a small spot in the spice blender that makes up the world's economy.

Most of the world wakes up craving coffee grown in Central and South America -- much of that grown coffee being financed by U.S. companies. Half of the world smokes tobacco ... grown mainly in the U.S. We produce the vast majority of all drugs for the entire world market. Hawaii alone produces more sugar than any country on Earth. There is more coal under the skin of the U.S. than all the energy that all the Arab nations will ever produce.

IMHO, the 800-pound gorilla issue is overblown. The real issue is the "8,000-pound gorilla" who occupies the White House and his intent on appointing the "right" people to the U.S. Supreme Court. If there ever was a time for Congress to think in terms of "tons", it is now.
