Good for Bush. When Clinton sent warships to the Taiwan Straits a few years ago, he was saying the "force was an option". Nothing has changed. It has always been an option. We remain opposed to unilateral declarations of sovereignty by Taiwan. We continue to oppose resolution of the "one China" issue by force. We continue to support Taiwan's defense needs. Why be coy about it? That was the policy, that is the policy, that will be the policy...........

He said Bush's comments suggested the president abandoned the policy with ``absolutely no consultation with members of Congress or with our allies in the region.''

The real question is whether he even knew what he was doing as he did it. Bush isn't qualified to sell hot dogs for the Rangers.
