Hi Greg,

Re: Someone that gets it. Billy Tauzin for PREZ!

What Rep. Tauzin gets is a very healthy slug of campaign contributions from the ILECs. Should this bill pass, it will be the last nail in the coffin of the 1996 Telecommunications Reform Act. The CLECs will be destroyed. The ILECs will see no competition on the horizon and all the $39.95 teaser rates for xDSL will blast to $100/mo. with bundled network elements on top of that. The rollout of broadband to the masses will be as stifled in this new environment, due to financial constraints, as the present regime is stifled due to technical difficulties and ILEC intransigence to adopt the bleeding edge of technology.

This bill is actually very good news for the cable companies, whose own broadband capabilities and price structure will look even better in comparison to the competition they face today.

JMVHO, Ray :)
