i regularly buy physical, but the silver miners provide of course better leverage. i like PAAS better and better...the stock's in the dumps, and yet, they just doubled production by bringing a new large mine on line in Peru. unfortunately there aren't many pure silver plays out there, and half of those are very risky. the solution is to diversify among them, and not overweight the speculative ones. after all, if you have say 5 different stocks and one of them goes to zero and the others are all 20 baggers, you'll do just fine. :)
