Ten,

My main complaint about P4 is that it is much slower than it should be, given the pipeline depth. Before the details about Willy's microarchitecture came out, I was quite convinced that Willy would blow AMD out of the CPU business.

wrt business, losing RDRAM and the large 0.18u die will make P4 competitive.

A few notes from the analyst's meeting webcast:

- 30% of cap ex goes to comm
- 81% of cap ex is conversion to .13 and 300 mm
- 2 GHz P4 due "about a quarter from now"
- P4 scaling very well, 1.7 GHz in volume production
- .13 will be in "high volume" in 4th quarter (?)
- back end server market share went from 4% '99 to 34% '00
- Otellini said performance difference with Rambus was much, much more significant when you get over 2 GHz on P4

Overall, I thought there was a lack of confidence in comm and networking, strong confidence in computing. If you get a chance to view only parts of the presentation, Otellini and Bryant were the best parts, and the Q&A.

I hope Tony or someone else has a chance to view the presentation, somebody that takes better notes and knows better than I what is new news.
