Pravin, Is that what it takes on high speed continuous operation? Or is it with a typical see of laptop apps that have a duty cycle of 15%?
A lot depends on that duty cycle with their clock reduction system.

Pravin, the 4W power for 1 GHz PIII 0.18 mobile is based on it spending most of its time in the "sleep" state with no clock applied to the chip. Still impressive, but it can't be compared to the 22W number for Palomino. The TBird consumes a maximum of 5W in it's sleep state at 1.75v Vcc.

I believe the Intersil chip announced a few days ago handles this kind of power mode switching, while PowerNow! only controls the clock speed when the chip is in the "run" mode.

I believe that Palomino consumes about 6 watts when throttled down to 300MHz. This is still fast enough for most apps.
