I think what he means is that the system is designed to cheat many bigger fish than moms and pops. They just get caught up in it.

is ...???

The money of their customers. But how different is it from a movie theater, CPU company, gambling casino, grocery store? They all have products, in case of Wall Street firms it is margin loans, trading (and commissions, order flow fees associated with that), mutual funds (and management fees associated with that).
