I think it was Joe who already pointed out some weeks(?) ago that it was very unlikely for AMD to debut three new products within six months (Palomino, Morgan, Clawhammer).

Agreed, and consistent with the strategy change regarding the Palomino : TBird was supposed to last only half a year but it's life has been extended to a full year. There could be much more economic reasons to that than engineering ones.

Also, the chipset design could be part of the delay. I hope its for the better and we'll finally se LDT and a 128-bit memory bus

That said, the whole thing sucks big times as I expected to see some exciting reviews of the chip during first half. I don't like the trend AMD is heading to. I stay out of the stock for the moment.

Andreas: Pretty much the old schedule. I don't want to downplay any schedule slips but it was extremely unrealistic to expect volume shipments of Clawhammer late this year.

Well, the old roadmap promised Clawhammer samples Q4 and volume production (not shipments!) Q1. Sledge was slated as a quarter later. All in all, the slip looks like about a quarter. Regardless, Hammer was never going to ship in huge volume in 2002 - AMD had made it clear that K7-derivatives would dominate until 2003.

By the looks of it, Tbred has not suffered much of a slip.

One possible explanation could be that Tbred will be done on a process using the old 248nm equipment, whereas the SOI process will use the new 193nm equipment.

andreas, earlier Tenchusatsu said that the next version of Itanium , but still on 0.18 process will not be released until mid 2002, so it seems like the competition has pushed back its 64 bit chip also.

Anyone ever notice on SI's opening page.....the "top stories" page....first thing in the morning the headline reads, "Stocks to open flat due to GDP
report".....then after the opening rallies you see the headline change to "Stocks rally at open due to GDP report".........funny stuff. I wish I could recant
like that!!!!
