you are right in the first count. my gateway to internet is a nat'ing linux box which servers 11 machines with a dsl connection. it is a 33 mhz 486 with 32 megs of memory and it runs http, smtp, pop3, ftp servers for my company.

about the next category i am not so sure though. last month our dsl carrier went bankrupt taking around 100,000 dsl lines with it. it has been hell to get another dsl. i don't see broadband happening soon alas. i am happy with my 3.5 mbps cable modem at home though.

Some people with similar ideas have lost a lot of money on DSL companies or by holding ATHM.
