>On that I most emphatically disagree. Actually, I'd go so far as to claim that AMD could match Tualatin speed grades with only mobile Palomino!<

I stated that mobile Thoroughbred would not be able to match mobile Tualatin at those speed grades that Tualatin can reach. At speed grades above those that Tualatin can reach, there will be no alternative to mobile Athlon until 2003.

Of course, power consumption would be unacceptably high... but mobile Tbred will solve exactly that.

Mobile Thoroughbred will not be as competitive with mobile Tualatin as mobile Palomino will with mobile Coppermine. The reason for this is that Intel will be transitioning from 0.18-micron with aluminum interconnects to 0.13-micron with copper interconnects, AMD will be transitioning from 0.18-micron with copper interconnects to 0.13-micron with copper interconnects. While mobile Thoroughbred may be able to match mobile Tualatin in actual operation, mobile Tualatin will have better specifications, and they will be so close that specifications will win the day, especially since implementation will have more significance and Tualatin will have better mobile implementations.

The transition to SOI with mobile Barton however, should finally give AMD the edge, even in specifications, leading to the better mobile implementations being for Athlon.
