botched handset business so badly that it's terminal.

combining two bad handset businesses does not make a good business

I have more faith in Sony than he does. In this case, the first company to the wireless handset business has not been the most successful. . . .that is because of the ever evolving and competing technologies. And in such markets, it is often those LATE to the table who make the biggest splash. Sony is not known for "me too" products as the analyst implies. With Ericsson at a PE of 28.5, I am willing to bet that the joint-venture will help the company more than prolong the inevitable as the analyst also implies.

My feeling is that these companies are not going to rehash old products. Neither company has a reputation for such. Rather I think they will be focused on interactive handsets and handheld computing devices with wireless modems. . . .perhaps even a broadband entry. The analyst seems to think they will spend their time releasing old technology. I think this is inconsistent and false. Of course we all have a right to our opinions.
