I apologize. I somewhat misinterpreted your posts.

I said the action had to be EXAMINED in the context of the person's belief system.
But what does this mean? That persons belief system provides the justification (at least to them) of their actions. If you fundamentally cannot agree with their belief system, then saying they acted correctly within the context of it cannot mitigate or excuse their actions. What they are doing is still just as wrong from your point of view.
And I think is at least part of E's argument (although we need to hear from her on that).

But where an action is based on principle or belief, to punish without seeking understanding -- that I object

What precisely has been accomplished here?
