The fact that it was Democratic was an anachronism. I once met James Meredith, the man who integrated Ole Miss, at a conservative function in DC. He was working for Jesse Helms. As he said, "different times, different problems". See, a lot of fellows who were moderate or progressive on race were conservative on other things. It was not all race that caused alienation from the Democrats, a lot of it was the anti- war Movement and the nomination of McGovern......

The last true bastion of white racism in America today is the liberal movement. It takes a lot of contempt for someone to constantly try to convince them that they cannot succeed without the help of the rigged game that only liberals can give them. The eventual reaction for such a lack of respect will be another rock tied to the foot of the liberal movement when it is finally sunk for the last time.
