Newton's laws states that energy is neither created nor destroyed

Well Newton for sure wasn't a stock trader. Just a year or so ago, some folks had Jaguars, Porche's and Ferrari's, summer homes in Aspen, winter homes in Mexico, vacations in France, and business trips to Rio, A family in California and a mistress in Mexico. It took a lot of energy to make all that stuff and it was real. You could put hands on it or your arms around it.All that energy got created and then all that energy got destroyed... there ain't no trace of it left. so much for the law of physics.

Like I said Newton wasn't a capitalist. He did better watching apples.

Off Topic,

In any case, the "action - reaction" guy also said that "Matter could neither be created nor destroyed".

Ian, In this quote, you said matter. Newton is given credit for the conservation of energy as your references indicate.

Lavoisier is given credit for the theory of the conservation of matter as indicated by this trek through classical chemistry from Yale.

Two major discoveries on the principle of chemical behavior path the way to providing a working answer. First was the discovery of the law of conservation of matter by Antoine Lavoisier.

Einstein obviously settled things at a later date.

Best wishes,

OT as a "matter" of fact 8)

Wherein they loosely translate his law as:

One of Newton's laws states that energy is neither created nor destroyed it is only transferred from one form to another.

Since matter and energy are different forms of the same, via e=mc^2, perhaps Newton was right? He just had to wait for Albert E. to tell him how to do the math.

One way to "Store Energy" is to convert it to matter and put it on a shelf until needed. I have a cord of this in my back yard drying that I will burn next winter. CA and WA put a bunch of it behind dams and then drop it but fusion reactors might be much more fun (efficient) in the future.
